We love holidays in our class! These are just a few holidays that are special to students in our class, but make sure to read our comments to learn about more of our favorite holidays!
The first holiday that is special to us is Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving is a time when we get together and spend time with family and friends. We eat a big feast when we get together, and play games. The holiday began hundreds of years ago when the Pilgrims first came to the United States and needed help learning how to survive. While it was a good thing that the pilgrims learned how to survive, it was actually not great for the Native Americans because they lost land and many lost their lives. Today, the focus of Thanksgiving is spending time with family and being thankful for all that you have.
The next holiday we like to celebrate is Christmas. Christmas is a religious holiday that not everyone in our school celebrates, but we will share some traditions that students in our class do. We decorate a tree with ornaments and lights. We put presents under the tree, and so does Santa Claus. On Christmas day, we open presents with family. Many of us have a tradition of going to family's houses. Several of us also count down the days until Christmas using an Advent calendar. We also eat lots of food!
The last holiday we want to share with you is New Year's Eve and Day! On New Year's Eve, we get snacks and watch T.V. to watch the ball drop as it counts down to the New Year! We also make New Year's Resolutions, which are goals you want to do in the next year. There are also lots of fireworks and noise makers when the clock strikes midnight.
These are just a few of our favorite holidays. Read our comments to find out about other holidays we celebrate such as Easter, Halloween, Mother's Day/Father's Day, St. Patrick's Day and birthdays!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Holliday's Class
