Two things that I really appreciate are our refrigerator and running hot water. Can you imagine living without those things? Think of all the times in a day that you use those two things and imagine that many people in the world still do not have them. I stayed in Bolivia for a few weeks and the town I was in had only one shower! The shower was about 75 feet from the bedroom of the Peace Corps volunteer. Some houses had a small fridge (like in a hotel) but many had none. And there was only 1 phone. It hung on a telephone pole in the middle of the town. For reference, the town was about the size of Wyoming!

I find it so interesting how challenging it used to be to communicate. Homes did not have telephones and most communication went through mail. Now we can so easily communicate via our smart phones. What a change!!

Dear Cam, you’re right, we had no iPads! But we still had lots of fun with friends. We played outside, rode our bikes, made snowmen in the winter, used our imaginations for make-believe play. And we DID walk to the store for groceries-no Amazon for us! But you also live in an exciting time of technology. Use it wisely! Love, Grammy and Gapo

Dear Class, I loved doing Throw Back January! Another thing I know is that you could stop a train like you can stop a taxi by holding up a handkerchief while standing by the track!
