New Read Aloud

Dear Readers,
This week we started a new book during Read Aloud called The Wild Robot by Peter Brown.  The robot's name is Roz, and she lives on an island.  She is on this island because a hurricane caused her boat to crash and her crate was washed up on this island.  Otters opened the crate and accidentally activated her.  Roz didn't know she didn't belong on the island--she thought she was home.  She does not know how to survive in the wilderness, and she cannot understand any of the animals.  She was even attacked by two bear cubs. Later, she learns to camouflage and begins observing the animals in secret.  We are so excited to find out what happens to Roz!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Holliday's Class

Questions:
1. What do you think will happen to Roz?  Will she survive on this island, or not?

2.  If she survives, how will she survive? If she doesn't survive, what will cause her to be destroyed?

3.  What is your favorite children's chapter book?  We would love suggestions for future read alouds!

I think that Roz will survive because I love to have a happy ending in a story. I hope that Roz will build a strong shelter to protect her from the rain and predators so she does not break.

I am not sure about other book suggestions. Hopefully others will have some good ideas.

Dear Class,
This sounds like an exciting book already! I can't wait to hear how it ends. My prediction is that Roz will survive because it sounds like she already know how to adapt to her environment. She looks for clues from other animals on the island. I hope she makes new friends on the island. I hope you all enjoy the rest of this book.

Hi Everyone,

This is a fantastic book and super exciting! I do not want to share a predication with you, since I've read it. :) I am exciting to hear what you all think as you continue to read. I love the book, Three Tales of My Father's Dragon as a read aloud. We also love the Boxcar Children series and Humphrey books in our house.

Thank you for inviting us to read and contribute to your blog. We think that Roz will survive. She has made a good start in learning how to do so by observing the animals. Hopefully, she and the animals will become friends. They can help her to adapt and maybe there are ways that she can help them too. We look forward to hearing more about Roz's adventures.

I think Roz will survive because the message of the book could be that robots are actually smart and can "think" through tough situations. I am rooting for Roz!

I think Roz will survive. She already learned the first rule of survival, which is to observe and learn your surroundings. These observations will help her to get along with her new friends. My favorite chapter book as a kid was anything written by Judy Blum. I especially enjoyed the Fudge series books. You guys should check them out one day.

Dear Nic's mom,
I think that Roz will survive because robots are built to help and
it needs to stay alive to help . So she should have danger
sensors and should stay alive.

Cam

Dear Bryce- you would love Fudge. He is a character in books written by Judy Blume. She is one of my favorite authors. The books are about a young man with a little brother named Fudge. Fudge gets himself and his big brother into all kinds of trouble! There are 5 books in the whole series.

Hi class! This sounds like an exciting book. I don't thinking have read it and I'm excited to hear the ending. I think Roz is a smart robot to slow down so she doesn't get hurt and use her observation skills to learn to ssurvive. Therefore, my prediction is that she will survive. When I was a kid, I enjoyed The Secret Garden, Charlotte's Web & The Frog & Toad Series. Now, I enjoy the Harry Potter Series.

I really like Dairy of a Wimpy Kid and Harry Potter series (books) also I like the movies but the books are enjoyable but you should do a book like Dairy of a Wimpy Kid because Harry Potter is too long if you are looking for books that are under 220 pages Dairy of a wimpy kid has like 217. My favorite is probably book 9 The Long Haul but pick any one. I don't like the first book though.
