Cultural Heritage by Izzy, Tobias and William

Dear Readers,

Our class has been learning about our cultural heritage.  First, we interviewed our parents.  Our class ancestors come from all over the world.  Some examples are Wales, Germany, France and England.  We are doing research on food, holidays, clothes, weather, land forms, climate, flags and traditions.  There are many places we are from.

Questions:

1.  What is your heritage?

2.  What land forms can be found in that country?

3.  What are the colors of the flag for that country?

4.  What special holidays or traditions are celebrated there?

Love,
Izzy, Tobias, and William

Dear Class,

Is heritage associated with a Country? I'm from Colorado and it is very different than Ohio but we are in the same country.
We have giant mountains that are over 14,000 ft tall - so tall that no trees can grow on them.

Colorado has a flag, just like Ohio has a flag. Colorado's flag has a "C" in the middle of it.

In the west we celebrate "frontier days" Most of the west was nearly uninhabitable 150 years ago. It took a special person to decide to leave the coast, travel for months and try and to live in a very different place. Every year we celebrate that adventurous spirit.

There are different cultures and heritages all around, even within the same country and even the same state (especially a state with an Indian name).

My family is made up of people that came from all over Europe. One of my grandfathers was from Germany. As a kid, I can remember going to his house and having German "stinky cheese". It smelled awful but I loved the taste of it. It's real name is limburger. I would eat mine on a cracker but my grandpa said that the real way to eat it was on rye bread with raw onions. I thought that was crazy. He and my dad would make big stinky sandwiches and eat them in the kitchen so that people in the living room wouldn't have to smell them.

Dear Kate,
I would think that is yucky! Big stinky cheese sandwiches just sounds... disturbing. I would think that is crazy too!

Love,
Virginia :)

Dear Izzy, Tobias, and William,
My heritage is Germany and Italy. The Germany flag colors are black, red, and yellow and the Italy flag is green, white, and red. Also the land forms only in Germany is lots of mountains, cold, and mostly wet.
