This week we planted seeds and started Germination trays to see what happens to seeds when they start to germinate. Unfortunately the seeds were too old to do anything, so we will try again next week!
As we began our study of living things, especially plants, we decided we needed to get outside and observe them in their natural environment! We took our clipboards out and wrote down everything we noticed about the plants around school. We described what they looked like, labeled their parts and brainstormed why certain areas had more plants than others and why certain plants grew in specific areas.
On Wednesday, a person from the Cincinnati Zoo came and brought a screech owl and a rainbow boa snake. The owl was tiny and quiet. We learned that boy owls are smaller than girl owls. This owl was a boy. The snake was not poisonous. We were allowed to touch the snake, but we couldn't touch the owl. We learned about different animal classes: fish, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and birds. We had fun learning about different kinds of animals! (written by Ms. Young's class)
