We went on a Fossil Hike last week! Our class went down to a creek and looked for fossils. Ms. Heather knows so much about fossils and used to work with fossils as her job. She taught us what a fossil is and the different kinds of fossils we might find at the creek. She helped us identify the fossils we found too! Some of our parents came to help too. We found Brachiopods, Pelecypods, Cephalopods, Horn Coral, Crinoid stem fragments, and Bryozoa! These fossils were all livings things once that no longer exist today. We know that many living things might become extinct because of a habitat change, hunting, disease or competition. Check out the pictures from our hike and some examples of the fossils we found.
Questions:
1. Which of these fossils have you seen in real life?
2. Why do you think these living things are no longer around?
Sincerely,
Mrs. Holliday's Class
