Today we started our study of Maps! We discussed what a map was, as well as the different features of maps. We analyzed different maps and determined the good and not so good aspects of each map. Take a look! We liked this map because it had a key and a compass rose. It was not very detailed though. We liked that this map has a scale and a compass rose. This map doesn't have many words or details, and it doesn't have color. We don't think this is a very good map to use. We like the compass rose on this map. We think this map is easy to read. Some of us think it has too many words. It is nice because it includes all of North America. It's not good because it doesn't have a scale. We like this map because it has color. We wish it showed rivers. It does not have many words. This map wouldn't be helpful if we wanted to see Wyoming because it is not very detailed. We like this map because the continents and oceans are labeled. It also has a compass rose and a scale. We like the details on this map. It shows population, so it gives us extra information. It has a map key and a compass rose, which are helpful when reading it. It has labels on it as well. We didn't like how big this map was because it was hard to carry around. Here are some questions for you! Please leave us a comment!

We are so excited to see so many people reading our blog! We have some news. We have a new student in our class today! He is learning our routines very quickly and is very nice! We are
having lots of fun. Yesterday, we had a scavenger hunt. The scavenger hunt was really fun. We had to look for people instead of things, such as someone who has a cat, someone who plays an instrument, someone who plays soccer, and someone who likes pickles. Have you ever done a scavenger hunt before? What did you have to find? Today is our first day of Second Grade! We are Second Graders in Ms. Young’s class. Our class is in a very small school in Ohio. There are 21 students in our class. In our class, there are 9 girls and 12 boys. Most of us are 7 or 8 years old. Seven students have blond hair, 11 have brown hair, and two have black hair. Ten students have brown eyes, six have blue eyes, and five have hazel eyes. We have many interests in our class, including sports, art, music, reading and dancing. We are really excited to learn this year and share what we are learning on this blog! We cannot wait to make new friends!
Here are some questions we would like to ask people reading our blog. We love to read your comments so please leave us one! What do you like to do? Where do you live? What do you look like? It was wonderful meeting so many of you this morning! I am very excited for our first day tomorrow! Many parents were able to complete the Contact Form on my computer this morning, but if you were not able to do so, please complete the Contact Form below as soon as possible. This is the list I send home with all the students in our class in order to help you contact each other! Hello Second Graders and Parents!

In preparation for the first day and future parent communication, I would like parents to email me ([email protected]) so I have your email address for my weekly updates and other communication. I'll be sending our first email on the first day of school, so please email me as soon as possible so you receive the email!
