Market Day

5/23/2014

In Economics, we are learning about buying and selling goods and services.  After learning about money, we came up with ideas about small businesses.  We had a few days to make our products or plan our services, and we made posters to advertise our company.
Last week, we also started earning Cowboy Bucks.  We earned them for good behavior so that we could spend money at Market Day.
First, we visited Lance Market (the other second grade class).  We bought things from them, and then they came to Young Market to shop!

We learned that you can get change if you pay more than the item is worth.
If you are afraid you are going to run out of things to sell, it might be better to offer a service instead of goods.
If you did a service and you couldn't do it right away, you could make coupons for customers to trade in later.
If it is getting closer to closing time, you could lower the price so you sell all of your products.
When you lower the prices, sometimes people want to buy more because it won't cost as much money.
If you make something really expensive, people aren't going to want to buy it because they don't want to waste money.
If someone is selling the same thing as another company, you should look at both prices and buy the cheaper one.
If you are the seller and someone else is selling the same thing, you can lower your price so more people will buy from you instead of them.  You could also join groups with them so you work together and get more money.

Third Grade Patriotic Dress Rehearsal

5/9/2014

On Friday, May 9, 2014 we saw the Third Grade's dress rehearsal performance.  They marched in and were wearing costumes.  When they were in position, they looked like the American flag!  They performed patriotic songs.  There were lots of songs, jokes about presidents and quotes from presidents.  They talked about things from every letter of the alphabet.  At the end, they marched away to the same beat they marched in to.  We even got to sing some of the songs with them:  "God Bless America" and "The Nifty Fifty States."

It was fun to watch them because they were funny and talented.  We liked when the boys lip-sang the National Anthem and the girls did the "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" dance.    When it was all done, we clapped really loud for them!
