We are learning about air and weather in Science. We have done lots of experiments. First, we did exploration with balloons, straws, feathers, styrofoam balls, and cotton balls. In our next experiment, we experimented to see if air was in a vial when we put it under water. We found out that it was! Our third experiment was making parachutes and launching them both in the classroom and outside. We learned that air pushes up against the parachute, creating air resistance. This slows the parachute down. The next experiment we did was pushing on air with syringes. We played air tug o' war by connecting our syringes! Our last experiment was making pinwheels. The pinwheels are similar to anemometers, which measure wind speed. The faster the wind blows, the faster the pinwheel goes.
Questions:
What are some things you know about air?
If you have seen an anemometer before, where did you see it? Did you know there is one very close by in our town? Guess where it is!!
